All in the picture for this premium quality smartphone

We’ve been hearing about the P50 Pro since May 2021. Officially released in China in July 2021, it’s finally arriving in France after nearly 6 months of waiting, along with the P50 Pocket foldable smartphone and sports watch, Huawei Watch GT Runner . The Chinese giant offers a premium smartphone in most of its aspects – the image, the design and the screen – but it ignores some mandatory sections of a premium smartphone in 2022 (compatibility with 4G only, the absence of Google services such as the Play Store).

The company didn’t want to confirm this, but we suspect the US ban has much to do with the absence of 5G on its new flagship, even though the P40 Pro does benefit from it. This makes the P50 Pro one of the few smartphones on the market to offer the 4G variant of the Snapdragon 888.

Dual Array Cameras

Never mind, Huawei doesn’t let down and put all its marbles into the photographic experience by gluing two photo arrays onto the back of the P50 pro connected by a discreet pill-shaped photo block in the same color as the phone’s paint.

The upper part accommodates three sensors, the main 50 megapixels dedicated to wide-angle color shots (f / 1.8) with optical stabilization. It is accompanied by a 40 MP sensor specializing in monochrome shots (f / 1.6) and a 13 MP sensor, along with ultra-wide-angle optics (f / 2.2).

Front: We’ve ditched the pill-shaped dual camera on the P40 Pro for a more classic setup with a single punch-hole camera in the center of the display.

Both color and monochrome sensors are supposed to work together to take pictures 103% more light Compared to the P40 Pro. So shots at night or between a dog and a wolf promise to be very clear.

Let’s add that the wide angle sensor has a coil macro mode that captures targets up to 2.5 cm wide.

The bottom array provides a telephoto lens coupled with a 64MP sensor that supports autofocus mode to avoid blurry images. This allows you to take photos ranging from 0.5x magnification to 100x magnification. However, Huawei has not explained how far the optical zoom goes.

Excellent picture quality

Huawei has put the package on software processing and doubles down on the names of proprietary technologies that are supposed to improve the quality of shots. Thus, the P50 Pro benefits from Huawei XD Optics, a treatment that reduces some of the optical aberrations caused by smartphone photography. The phone is also equipped with the True Chroma XD Fusion Pro image engine. This extended name hides 20% better color accuracy, more efficient ambient light capture and an increased coverage of the DCI-P3 color spectrum by 25% (without accuracy in covering the color gamut itself).

short ! Huawei promises a super-equipped photo phone, capable of capturing more light and thus detail in all situations, while providing highly effective autofocus even on moving subjects. Moreover, when talking about motion, video with capture in 4K HDR is not left out.

P50 Pro Technical Sheet

For the rest of the technical sheet, the P50 Pro has all the trappings of a 2022 premium smartphone, if we forget the 4G SoC. It should also be remembered that the Huawei interface may be a bit confusing for some. It’s EMUI 12, an Android-based interface, but it doesn’t have Google services. For example, you will not find the Play Store on this phone.

For example, it displays a 6.6-inch curved OLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a definition of 2700 x 1228 pixels (450 pixels per inch). There is also no need to pay for more RAM or storage space. Whatever the model, you can count on 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

The rest of its design smells like an impeccable finish, like its IP68 certification and its 195g weight. Two speakers ensure a stereo management. However, there is no trace of Dolby Atmos certification or any other audio spatial technology.

Battery life could be a potential concern, as the P50 Pro has a 4,360mAh battery. It will be necessary to ensure use during our tests. Fast charging is 66W wired and 50W wireless, which promises to charge well under 45 minutes.

P50 Pro price and availability

Huawei P50 Pro will be available from January 26 at 2 pm at a price of 1199 euros. Available in two colours: Cocoa Gold and Black Gold.
